Choosing a Raleigh Venue
Choosing a Raleigh Venue.
How to say "I do" to a venue You have the perfect guy. You have the perfect ring. Now, you need to find the perfect venue for your big day. A barn? A ballroom? A gallery? With all the options out there, finding the ideal location that fits your dream vision can be a daunting task. However, by keeping a few things in mind during your search, you'll make the process of uncovering that hidden gem of a location much easier – and more fun!
• Guest list. As you tour a venue, consider the size of the space and how it might fit with the number of guests. Be mindful if the space will feel too large or too small. If the majority of your guests are low-key and not much for burning up the dance floor, a smaller venue can be great. If you think you'll have the celebration of the year, search for something that's more forgiving with space. And if there are guests on your list who may require special assistance, question if the venue will be functional for them.
• Location. If you don’t want your guests traveling too far or want as many to attend as possible, consider a venue closer to home. However, if you have your heart set on a destination-type venue, be upfront with guests about travel expectations and consider a venue with hotels nearby.
• Time of year. Your desired wedding date can be dictated by the venue - or vice versa. Are you planning to wed in the fall, when weddings are most popular? Is your ideal venue going to be as comfortable in winter as it is in summer/early fall? Keep this in mind when looking for a venue. Also, like with those pesky pop-up thunderstorms during Carolina summers, make sure your coveted outdoor wedding venue has an indoor option.
• Experience. Some venues have impeccable views overlooking the city or lush gardens that meander through historic properties. Others are merely a shell for which you have to infuse your own personality. Give thought to the type of experience you want for yourself and your guests on your big day and if the venue can deliver on that.
• Amenities. Every venue has different accommodations and policies. Know and understand what’s included when you book the venue and what you’re allowed to bring in. Ask about any tables, chairs and other rentals included with your booking. Inquire if you can bring in outside catering and/or a bar. Also, consider how much-added décor you will need to provide. If you don’t want to do much decorating, think about an option with expansive views or lots of character, such as a waterfront venue or a historic home.
• Vision. Does the venue meet your vision? Does it evoke your personality? If you always hoped for a romantic rustic barn wedding, a ceremony in a garden might not fulfill your wedding dreams. Stick to what you want and find an option that meets all, or most of your requirements. But more than checking items off a list, make sure it speaks to you!
• Budget. The least fun but most necessary aspect of finding a perfect venue is staying within budget. You may pine for that luxurious ballroom in the heart of the city but if it eats up your entire wedding budget, how great will the overall experience be? Learn where to compromise. Just like when you’re searching for the perfect partner, you should never settle when it comes to finding your perfect venue. And if you run into snags, don’t be afraid to seek the help of a planner. Most of the time they know many venue owners and can help you in your search.
