Planning a wedding is very stressful. There are so many details and so many decisions to make. You want your big day to be “perfect.” A day that you will never forget. But selecting the right wedding gown, is one of the most important aspects of planning your nuptials.

If you are a plus-sized bride, selecting the right dress brings additional challenges. Plus-sized is anyone who is normally a size 14 or higher. Bridal attire tends to run small so you would probably start at a size 16. Unfortunately, some stores do not have inventory on hand for these sizes. We have a few tips for shopping for your gown.

1.    Call ahead. You want to make sure that they will have adequate selections in your size. Some only have sizes for the average bride

2.    Don’t delay. Select your dress sooner rather than later. A talented seamstress can turn any dress into the gown of your dreams.

3.    Be confident. Flaunt what you have. It is more important to accent your assets as opposed to hiding your liabilities. Choose something that fits your personality.

4.    Select the right fabric. The thicker fabrics are better because they shrink the figure. Ruching is your friend but simply avoid flimsy fabrics.

5.    Bring a buddy or buddies. Make this an outing to share with mom or close friends. You will need and value a second opinion for such an important decision.

6.    Keep an open mind. Don’t go looking for a certain style. You might be surprised and the one the fits best is exactly what you said that you would never wear.

7.    Have fun.
